  • Absorption – When you take SunnyD Pro 10000 with a meal, the softgel releases Vitamin D3 and Vitamin K2 in the small intestine. Because both are fat-soluble, they are packed into tiny fat droplets (micelles) with the fats from your meal and absorbed through the intestinal wall. A randomised trial found that Vitamin D3 taken with a fat-containing meal was absorbed about 32% better than with a fat-free meal (Dawson-Hughes et al., 2015).
  • Activation – Vitamin D3 travels to the liver, where it is converted into 25-hydroxyvitamin D, the form your doctor measures in a blood test. The kidneys then convert it into calcitriol, the active hormone form of Vitamin D. 
  • Calcium absorption – Active Vitamin D switches on Vitamin D receptors in the gut, which produce calcium-transport proteins. Without enough Vitamin D, the body absorbs only 10–15% of dietary calcium; with healthy levels, absorption rises to about 30–40% (Holick, New England Journal of Medicine, 2007). 
  • Calcium delivery with K2 – Vitamin K2 (MK-7) activates osteocalcin, the protein that binds calcium into the bone matrix, and Matrix Gla Protein, which helps keep calcium out of the artery walls. MenaQ7® MK-7 stays active in the blood for about three days, far longer than Vitamin K1, giving more stable activity from one daily dose (Schurgers et al., Blood, 2007). 
  • Muscles and joints – Vitamin D receptors are also present in muscle fibres and joint tissues, where Vitamin D supports muscle contraction, strength and balance. 
  • Why 10,000 IU? – The Endocrine Society guideline recommends higher doses to correct deficiency before switching to a maintenance dose, and notes that up to 10,000 IU daily can be used in at-risk adults under supervision (Holick et al., 2011). Research shows no adverse effects at intakes up to 10,000 IU per day in healthy adults (Hathcock et al., 2007).
