How SunnyD Stat Pro 100 Works

  • Absorption – When the softgel is swallowed with milk or a meal containing fat, the high dose of Vitamin D3 is released in the small intestine and absorbed along with dietary fats. Taking Vitamin D with the largest meal of the day has been shown to raise blood levels by about 50% compared with taking it without food (Mulligan & Licata, Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, 2010). 
  • Storage and steady release – Because Vitamin D3 is fat-soluble, much of a large dose is stored in fat and muscle tissue and gradually released. The liver steadily converts it into 25-hydroxyvitamin D, the storage form measured in blood tests. A pharmacokinetic study of a single 100,000 IU oral dose showed average blood levels rising promptly from 27.1 to a peak of 42.0 ng/mL, staying above baseline for about two months (Ilahi et al., American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2008).
  • Activation – As the body needs it, the kidneys convert 25-hydroxyvitamin D into calcitriol, the active hormone that switches on Vitamin D receptors in the gut, bones, muscles and immune cells.
  • Calcium and bone balance – Active Vitamin D increases calcium absorption from food from about 10–15% up to 30–40%, supporting bone mineralization and normal muscle function (Holick, New England Journal of Medicine, 2007). 
  • K2 puts calcium in its place – MenaQ7® Vitamin K2 is absorbed with the Vitamin D3 and travels to the liver, bones and blood vessel walls. There it activates osteocalcin, which binds calcium into the bone matrix, and Matrix Gla Protein, which helps keep calcium from depositing in the arteries. MK-7 remains active in the blood for about three days, much longer than Vitamin K1 (Schurgers et al., Blood, 2007).
