How SunnyD Fizz 10 Works 

  • In the glass – Drop one SunnyD Fizz tablet into about 225 mL of water. The effervescent base releases bubbles that break the tablet apart in moments and disperse 10,000 IU of Vitamin D3 evenly through a refreshing orange drink, so there is nothing to swallow whole. 
  • Absorption – Once you drink it, Vitamin D3 reaches the small intestine, where it is absorbed together with fats from your meal. A randomised trial found Vitamin D3 was absorbed about 32% better when taken with a fat-containing meal than with a fat-free one (Dawson-Hughes et al., Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, 2015), which is why SunnyD Fizz is best enjoyed with food. 
  • Activation – Vitamin D3 travels to the liver, where it becomes 25-hydroxyvitamin D, the form measured in a blood test. The kidneys then convert it into calcitriol, the active hormone form. 
  • Action in the body – Active Vitamin D binds to Vitamin D receptors (VDRs) found in many cell types. In the gut, it switches on calcium-transport proteins, increasing calcium absorption from about 10–15% up to 30–40% (Holick, New England Journal of Medicine, 2007). In muscles, it supports normal contraction and strength, and in immune cells it supports the body's natural defences. 
  • Why 10,000 IU? – Blood Vitamin D rises in proportion to the dose. In a controlled study, 10,000 IU daily produced the largest rise in Vitamin D levels over about 20 weeks (Heaney et al., American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2003).
